Frequently Asked Questions:
Are requests for specific coaches, teams, practice schedules, or game times accepted?
No, sorry… as much as we would like to, we are unable to accept or satisfy any special requests. Thanks for your understanding. Also remember all coaches are strictly volunteers and are doing the best they can. And we are always looking for people to help. Once your player is on a team see the head coach to inquire.
What will be my child's team game schedule this year?
The season consists of 7/8 games each Saturday/Sunday beginning the first Saturday before Labor Day, and will only continue for up to 3 weeks after the regular season if they make the playoffs. Your team’s opponent, game location, and game time, is scheduled by the NYFL league.
Where are games played?
Home games are played at Memphis High School Football Field. Away games will be played at one of the other NYFL teams home field. Away games location will be located on our website. No games are before 11am. and will not start later than 7:30 pm.
How are players assigned to a Team?
Teams are assigned by Flag – Grade K-2nd, Freshman Tackle – 3rd-4th & JV Tackle -5th-6th. If we have enough for 2 or more teams in any division they will be entered into a blind draw done by the Memphis Commissioner and the Head Coach of each team with each coach receiving their player as first pick. Assistant Coaches will then be chosen after teams are picked.
What is the practice schedule typically like?
Each team will have 3 conditioning practices w/helmets (Excluding Flag) the first week before they introduce full equipment day 4 & 5, and up to 5 practices each week no longer than 3 hrs. and no practices on Sat/Sun after that and through the season. Each team’s practice schedule and practice location (on the property) is determined by each team’s head coach. Practice locations will be held on Memphis Community Schools property.
Are there weight limits?
Yes but limited. Each player’s weight must be at or under the limits listed below in order to participate in practices or games. This is a league requirement. Each player is weighed before each game in full equipment, unless declared to the league by their coach as an X man or Super X man Thursday before each game. If your child is over the weight limit at game time, an X or X sticker will be placed on their helmet after weighing in if determined after they in fact are an X man. If they weigh in under there will be no sticker and the player will be able to play anywhere on the field. Non declared kids that weigh in overweight, not declared Thursday before the game will not be able to play in that game. We do not allow your child to play up to the next age group if they are over the weight limit.
Here are the weight limits for each age group is as follows:

Are there any rules concerning playing time?
League rules concerning playing time are very clear. The NYFL rule is “All players shall play min. of 6 plays per half of the game on either offense, defense or specialty teams. In Memphis, we insist that our coaches follow this and it is a Mandatory rule set by the league with consequences handed down from the league to the coach. The league uses community volunteer spotters at every game to hold them accountable. Coaches do have some discretion on when they do go in. If you would like to know how or what to work on about your child’s playing time, please discuss it with your coach. Demands will not be tolerated and will be turned over to the Memphis Community Director.
